6 HEALTHY OPTIONS FOR BREAKFAST

Easy to Prepare Breakfast Combinations

Haven’t you heard? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Wellness experts say that the timing and contents of your breakfast are key to optimal health and well being. Their studies say that eating even a small amount within an hour or so of waking is a good idea.

Here are some healthy options to break your fast and rev up your body after a night’s sleep. All made with with fresh ingredients, delicious taste, and enough nutrients to give you energy all day long and keep you full for hours.

  1. Omelet with cheese, veggies and toast
  2. Greek yogurt with berries, nuts and a sprinkle of chia or flax seeds
  3. Avocado toast. Top with either an egg, slices of radish or tomato, crumbled Feta cheese, salt and pepper or ‘Everything but the bagel’ seasoning
  4. Protein smoothie with half a banana, nut butter, almond milk, spinach
  5. Organic oatmeal with collagen powder, protein powder, flax seeds and a sprinkle of cinammon. Add sweetness with a drizzle of maple syrup
  6. Chia pudding with almond or cow milk, vanilla essence, a drizzle of maple syrup and berries

For the Bread Lovers

Nutritionists and dieticians recommend Ezekiel/sprouted bread. With more protein, more fiber, no preservatives, and a lower glycemic index, the sprouted grains in Ezekiel bread have far more nutritional value than regular white bread or even whole wheat bread. Bagels and muffins- although delicious and satisfying- are high in calories and carbohydrates, low in protein and fiber and will spike your blood sugar levels.

For the Cheese Lovers

Please note that when adding cream cheese, shredded cheese or butter to your breakfast, the caloric content increases as well as the cholesterol and fat content. That being said, they are still considered a good addition to your meals- so moderation is key.

For the Coffee Lovers

Black coffee devoid of sugar, artificial flavours and creamers is great for your health. It is loaded with antioxidants and is anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic. Drinking coffee increases alertness, attention and improves your mood. It also reduces anxiety and lowers the risk of depression.

Research has shown that the best time to drink coffee is 90 minutes to 2 hours after waking up. Coffee should be consumed mid-morning or early afternoon in order to maximize energy, reset your circadian rhythms and improve your sleep.

Lemon Water Before Eating Breakfast

Lemon water at warm or room temperature first thing in the morning can help promote liver function and regularity. It also detoxifies your body- because it acts as a diuretic flushing out toxins.

Lemons are an alkalizing power food high in Vitamin C and antioxidants- great for your body and skin! They are also known to have strong anti-inflammatory qualities.

Making a habit of starting your day with a cup of lemon water will bring added benefits to your health and digestion.
