A DAY AT A NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE WINERY

Niagara-on-the-Lake, located a 1.5 hour drive away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto, feels like a different part of the world to me. This picturesque town is quaint, peaceful, historical and beautiful. It has cute boutiques and antique shops, great ice cream shops and farm-to-table restaurants. NOTL is also surrounded by some of the best wineries in Canada.

Although we have been to this region several times before, somehow every visit is always full of new places to discover. We had never been to this winery before and we were quite excited to spend the afternoon touring and wine tasting.

REIF ESTATE WINERY

REIF is one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s founding family wineries. Under the ownership of Mr. Klaus W. Reif, it is still producing wines from its vineyards planted in 1977. They offer guided tours, educational tastings, food pairings and blind tastings.

Our tour guide Michael, well-versed, funny and friendly, was perfect for our party of four. Our visit of the winery included a tasting of three delicious wines paired with local, artisanal cheeses. Their famous Vidal Icewine has won many prestigious awards here in Canada and abroad.

Afterwards, we were encouraged to tour the vineyards and enjoy a wonderful sunny afternoon strolling among the majestic vines.
