Last year flew by flew by and 2025 is kicking in full force. I am glad it’s a new month and that with it comes new beginnings. Best to start fresh with a new mindset, a heart full of good intentions and a bucket list that hopefully will bring new experiences and fill the days with joy and contentment.
If like me you are in Canada, the US, the Uk or somewhere up north, then it’s likely that the months of January and February will still be quite dark, cold and dreary. These bucket list suggestions will bring a bit of fun, happiness and colour to winter before we make our way into Spring and Summer.
WINTER BUCKET LIST

BUY YOURSELF FLOWERS
In my book, nothing cheers up the morale and a house as a bouquet of beautiful fresh flowers. But if you are not a fan of fresh flowers, then go for a new plant. Select a pot that matches your decor and style and place it in a corner where it will bring you joy every time you see it. Don’t have a green thumb? Go for faux! These exquisite faux natural touch hydrangeas will cheer up any room.
START A NEW BOOK
I love decor, fashion/style, historical novels and mindset books. The following have been recently added to my library and I fully recommend. Go check them out!
Ralph Lauren ~ A Way of Living
The Achievement Habit by Bernard Roth
PICK UP A NEW HOBBY OR SKILL
I once read that in order to keep your brain agile and avoid early onset dementia, one has to learn something new – often. I am still looking for a hobby to pick up this year, tho. At the moment, I am torn between either learning to paint with water-colour or do calligraphy. Other great activities are LEGO, jigsaw puzzles and word search/ crosswords. All these activities are not only therapeutic but a fun thing to do!
HOST A SPECIAL OR THEMED DINNER
Why not go all out and host a dinner party with a theme? Invite friends and family, decorate your table accordingly, select a fun music playlist and serve different fare than your usual. What about a night of ethnic foods? A Mexican taco night, Lebanese Mezze, Spanish tapas or Indian sound pretty yummy to me! How about preparing this super simple yet delicious Southern Shrimp Boil? Or host a cocktail party, have everyone dress up and serve bite size appetizers and good drinks. There’s lots to choose from! If cooking is not your thing, you can find a great restaurant and order take-out. It is most definitely acceptable, too.
SEND A VALENTINE’S CARD OR A SWEET TREAT TO A FAVOURITE PERSON
Regardless if you are celebrating the day or not, these are a fun thing to do for a special someone in your life, your neighbour, a favourite aunt or your co-workers. My go-to for sweet treats here in Toronto and the GTA is the Sugar Fairy Kitchen, who offers the prettiest and most delicious goodies. Check their instagram HERE.
GO FOR WALKS IN NATURE
Getting outside -preferably in the daylight- will provide you a sense of calm and will always make you feel better than if you stayed indoors. In January and February, the temperatures are chillier and the weather wetter or snowy, but with a good pair of warm quality boots on- it is so totally worth it. A bonus: a stroll in nature will not only help with the state of the mind but with the quality of sleep.
SPREAD KINDNESS
February 17th is Random Act of Kindness Day. Doing something good for someone when they least expect it will bring brighten their day- and yours as well!
WEAR RED
This month, why not wear a red dress, pants or top? If you are not a fan of wearing red clothes, then why not add a pop of colour to your outfit via a red bag, a comfortable, classic shoe or a soft scarf. If red is really not your thing, opt for an all neutral outfit and wear a bold red lipstick.
START PLANNING A FALL TRIP OR HOLIDAY
We all need a little getaway once in a while. Depending on the budget, you can go big or small as long as you give yourself at least a weekend of fun, R&R or adventure. If travelling out of the country is not in the works, you can either plan a visit to a neighbouring town, state/province. Another alternative is to plan a staycation~ discover places and do activities in and around your city (play tourist in your own town).
TREAT YOURSELF OR YOUR HOME TO A NEW SCENT
My current obsession is Celine’s Black Tie perfume- a combination of white orris butter, cedar, tree moss, vanilla and musk. It is perfect for winter. If you want a sexy combo of lavender and vanilla, check out YSL Libre. At home, we are currently burning Linnea’s Wood House – a great combo of bergamot, violet and sandalwood. But if you prefer a sweeter scent how about Pear Galette – a scent that reminds us of a Parisian bakery in the morning.
MAKE A NEW RECIPE- AND SHARE IT ☺️
Go back to those old cookbooks and pick a recipe you have always wanted to prepare but never had the time. Or hit Pinterest and find something interesting to make. I also have a couple of easy to prep dishes here on the blog- find them in my FOOD AND DRINK section. Let me know if you make any and how they turned out! And don’t forget to share them, too!
