FACE SERUMS – THE MOST IMPORTANT PRODUCTS OF YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE

TORONTO, ONTARIO

Skinceuticals Canada invited me to test out two of their most essential serums- a combo of antioxidants- that are considered to be the “GOLD STANDARD” in skincare by many dermatologists, plastic surgeons and estheticians.

So, of course, I had to say yes! It was the perfect opportunity to try out these famous products.

Decades of extensive scientific research have made this skincare company a leader in the industry with products that are clinically proven to prevent and correct the effects of pollution and sun damage to our skin.

WHAT IS A SERUM?

A serum is a topical treatment product made of very small molecules that delivers active ingredients into your skin and are absorbed quickly and deeply. It is typically thinner and lighter than a moisturizer and has a wide variety of functions.

CE FERULIC

This powerful daytime antioxidant serum with 15% Vitamin C (the highest potency available) plus Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid is one of the most effective in the market- ever. This superior antioxidant is your absolute “go-to” for firm, smooth and youthful-looking skin. Perfect at any age but, if possible, best to start in your mid 20’s!

This serum has a light texture and goes on smoothly. It also has quite a distinctive smell which, upon application, dissipates rather quickly. It bothered me at first but after day 3, I got used to it.

WHAT IT DOES
  • Neutralizes free radicals
  • Brightens your skin and evens out skin tone
  • Helps repair the skin barrier
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Stimulates the production of collagen
  • Improves the appearance of dark brown spots and post-breakout red marks
  • Prevents cellular damage
DIRECTIONS

In the morning, after cleansing, apply 3-5 drops of this water based serum to a dry face, neck and chest. Continue with your moisturizer and then apply sunscreen- preferably 30 minutes before heading out. My current favourite sunscreen is this one. Check out my blog post here for more info on sunscreens for the face.

RESVERATROL B E

This nighttime antioxidant concentrate is made of 1% pure resveratrol (an extract from grapes) plus Vitamin E and Baicalin. It is a hydrating serum with a gel-like consistency and a soft, silky texture that spreads rather easily. Use in conjunction with the C E Ferulic serum for maximum effectiveness and healing of your skin. Ideal for all skin types. Perfect for mature skin, but best to start in your 30’s.

WHAT IT DOES
  • Triggers skin to repair itself
  • Improves skin’s radiance
  • Increases skin density and firmness
  • Diminishes hyperpigmentation
  • Improves the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
DIRECTIONS

In the evening, after cleansing, apply 2 pumps to a dry face, neck and chest area. Exfoliate the skin once a week so the products penetrate better. Follow up with a corrective product (retinol) and/or moisturizer. For more details on skincare over 40, check my post on skincare routine here.

RESULTS

After a solid month of testing on my 53 year old mature skin, these two potent, non-prescription serums have been such game changers. I could not believe that after only 3 weeks of diligent and proper application, I was able to see some lightening of my dark brown spots and a skin that glows… and I am totally delighted!

These serums will now be an integral part of my skin regime.

To see maximum results I suggest using these two products in conjunction with sunscreen. Otherwise, it defeats the purpose. The only downside is that these products are on the pricier side, but I think both are definitely worth the investment because they work.

Have you tried any of these serums before? I would love to know what products work for you!

XO, Lala
